“The degree of virtuosity that was witnessed at the packed hall can only be the product of a cultivated discipline, not only technical but in life as well.”
Since its foundation in 1999, Duo Scarbó has achieved important success in Europe and America and has been internationally recognized for its four-hands and two-piano performances. Their quality has been awarded in important international competitions and their performances have been praised both by musical critics and audiences.
First founded by pianists Elena Hammel and Laura Sánchez, the Duo stopped its public appearances in 2011, restarting them in autumn 2018, with one of its founders, Laura Sánchez and Spanish pianist Cristina Lucio-Villegas.
Cristina and Laura met while teaching at the Getafe Conservatory of Music. In 2015 they had the opportunity to perform the Spanish première of Zemlinsky ‘s piano four hands arrangement of Mahler’s 6th Symphony at the 2nd edition of the « Clásica x contemporáneos » Festival, directed by Xavier Güell, at Casa Encendida in Madrid.
In 2018 they decided to resume Duo Scabó’s activity. They made their official debut at the Madrid Contemporary Music Festival (COMA) that same year, premiering three works, one of them dedicated to the new Duo Scarbó.
The Duo’s philosophy has remained the same over time: achieving high quality performances, characterized by powerful sensitivity and great technical accuracy, both in Spanish and international repertoires, as well as in classical and contemporary music.
