Elena Hammel

Puertorican pianist Elena Hammel, who has been described by the press as "a pianist of great talent and sensibility" (El Nuevo Día, San Juan PR), is the winner of the highest piano awards at competitions in Ireland and Puerto Rico and has also caught the attention of critics from The New York Times and The Boston Herald for her performance of György Ligeti's music. She has been the guest soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, the Padre Antonio Soler Chamber Orchestra, and the Puerto Rico Chamber Orchestra and has also performed throughout the United States, Italy, Germany, Austria, Holland, Ireland and Spain. Her CD For Your Ears Only was released in 2001 and she has also been broadcast on radio stations Duinrand (Holland), WGBH (Boston), WIPR (Puerto Rico) and Radio Nacional Clásica (Spain) and on TU- TV television (Puerto Rico).

Elena holds a Bachelor in Music Degree with Honors from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied with Stephen Drury, and went on to get a a Master in Music with High Honors from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, studying with Dr. John O'Conor. Other teachers have included Ferenc Rados, Joaquín Soriano, Aquiles Delle Vigne and Patricia Zander.
